Colon Hydrotherapy

Please note that at this time we are

not offering Colon Hydrotherapy

What is the colon and what does it do?

The colon, or large intestine, is a hollow muscular tube-like organ. The colon is 5 to 9 feet long and can stretch from 1 inch to 12 inches in diameter when impacted with fecal matter. It forms the end point of the digestive tract, and moves waste by involuntary wavelike contractions, to synthesize valuable nutrients (such as vitamins B & K) and to prepare and store fecal waste prior to elimination. The beneficial flora in the colon also helps to protect the body from infection and disease. It is believed that 60-70% of the immune tissues reside in the colon and intestine.

Why is colon health so important?

The colon, along with the skin, kidneys and lungs, is a major organ of elimination of toxins and wastes. If bowel movements are irregular, the waste products and toxins can build up. These accumulated poisons are often reabsorbed into the blood stream, where they may be carried to other tissues and organs in the body, compromising our health.

What is Colon Hydrotherapy (Colonic Irrigation)?

Colon Hydrotherapy is the gentle infusion of warm filtered water into the colon (large intestine) using no chemicals or drugs. The warm water helps to soften, break up and then remove impacted and dehydrated fecal, mucoid, parasitic and other waste materials that layer the intestinal walls.

The client relaxes comfortably on a massage table as a small sterile, rectal tube or speculum is gently inserted into the anus. There are two separate lines attached to the hydrotherapy equipment, one for water and one for waste.

The therapist (see information below on Robert Moncrief, Certified Colon Therapist) then allows filtered water to begin to flow into the colon. The water, along with old fecal material, gas, waste, mucus and toxins, is released through the waste line and then through a viewing tube so that the amount and type of waste being eliminated can be thoroughly assessed. The waste is then flushed away through the sewer line.

Signs of inefficient elimination and a toxic colon:

  • Constipation
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Chronic headaches
  • Bad breath – body odour
  • Excessive gas or bloating
  • Irritability, depression
  • Poor concentration
  • Persistent tiredness
  • Sagging posture (pot belly)
  • Lower back pain or arthritis
  • Aching muscles or joints
  • Coated tongue
  • Skin problems
  • Inability to lose weight
  • Poor immune function
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Dry, brittle nails

The goals of each treatment are:

  • Hydrate the body.
  • Soften and remove hardened toxic fecal matter.
  • Stimulate and strengthen the nerves, muscles, glands, circulatory and immune components of the digestive system.
  • Stimulate peristalsis (the natural wavelike muscular movement that moves waste through the intestines).
  • Cleanse the intestinal tract to allow better nutrient absorption.

Benefits of Colon Hydrotherapy

Some benefits that have been reported with periodic colon cleansing are:

  • Improved bowel function, allowing for better nutrient absorption.
  • A loosening of mucus in the lungs.
  • Looking and feeling younger.
  • More energy.
  • Improved range of motion.
  • A clearer complexion.
  • Weight loss.
  • Smoother, tighter skin.
  • A better posture.
  • A sharper, clearer mind.
  • All round feeling of improved health and vitality.

Is Colon Hydrotherapy safe?

Yes, It is completely safe. Sterile specula are used to prevent client-to-client contamination. The water used has an extensive filtration system to filter out chemicals and contaminants. The water pressure and temperature are controlled at all times for the client’s complete comfort and safety.

Is it embarrassing or painful?

No, your dignity is completely maintained with proper draping in a private room, and because a closed system is used, there is no offensive odour or mess to worry about. There may be minimal cramping or discomfort just before a release, as with any bowel movement. Most of the treatment is very relaxing. The therapist uses various abdominal massaging techniques to add to the client’s comfort and to help facilitate a more thorough cleansing.

Is Colon Hydrotherapy habit forming or can a person become dependent on it?

Many people fine just the opposite to be true. Unlike enemas, laxatives and suppositories, which can be highly habit forming, properly administered Colon Hydrotherapy tones and conditions the bowel so that it is better able to function on its own. As with everything, however, moderation is key. Your Colon Hydrotherapist can provide recommendations regarding the frequency of sessions, as well as helpful suggestions to assist with improved bowel function outside of colon hydrotherapy.

How do I prepare for a treatment?

There is no need for extensive preparation. For the best cleansing, it is recommended to drink a lot of water and eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables for several days before your treatment. On the day of your treatment you may be more comfortable if you refrain from eating or drinking too many liquids for at least two hours before your scheduled appointment.

How many sessions are needed?

The number of sessions will depend on the individual needs of each client. Often, people will need a series of six to eight treatments fairly close together to receive a thorough cleansing of the colon. Then a monthly maintenance treatment is suggested to keep the colon cleaned and toned.

Can Colon Hydrotherapy wash away all the bacteria, even the good?

The friendly bacteria can only live in an alkaline environment. Most people, due to years of improper eating habits, lack of exercise and poor elimination, have an acidic colon. So it’s helpful to flush away the bacteria in an acidic colon. One great benefit of the cleansing program is to change the environment from acidic to alkaline.

How can I tell if I would benefit from Colon Hydrotherapy?

If we eat three meals a day, we should be having three bowel movements per day. Many people eliminate on average once per day, so we must ask ourselves what is happening to our other two daily meals. Even if you are having three movements per day, you may still be having incomplete bowel movements due to accumulation of possibly 5 to 25 pounds of impacted fecal matter. Every day we are exposed to toxins in the air we breathe, food we eat and water we drink. Our modern lifestyles with refined, processed, low fibre diets, lack of exercise and increased levels of stress contribute to our toxic load. If the elimination systems are under active and the toxins accumulate faster than can be eliminated, the body’s defenses can be compromised.
